HTCH's annual report shows a picture of an actuated suspension although its not easy to see how it works from the picture. My poor understanding of it is that it essentially applies an electrical current to a strip of material on one side or the other of the suspesion which contracts pulling the tip of the flexure slightly to one side. Obviously the reaction time is extraordinarily fast.
I believe it compaensates both when a head is moved to a track as well as when the rotation is not perfectly round.
I can't tell you whether a similar application exists anywhere else or wheter the patents are at risk from challenge.
