COMMERCE ONE CEO HOFFMAN SCRAPS WITH ARIBA OVER BUSINESS E-COMMERCE

Competition in the business supply procurement market is getting ugly. During an earnings conference call in the summer of 1999, Ariba CEO Keith Krach told analysts he thought Commerce One had "thrown in the towel" on its software business. Then, after stealing MCI WorldCom as a customer from Commerce One, Ariba executives rubbed it in by touting the coup to trade reporters.
