The CD-ROM mechanism in the regular iMac has been replaced with a DVD drive with digital circuitry all the way up to the monitor. Jobs indicates the quality of a DVD played on the iMac DV exceeds the quality of the same movie shown on a consumer DVD player connected to a television with an NTSC or S-video connection.
