Now, now, what I said was that it proved that Lehmann-Haupt is not apolitical. I didn't say it proved he was an extreme left ideologue. You said Lehmann-Haupt was not only not an extreme left ideologue, but he was apolitical, and he's not apolitical.

This version is the most accurate representation of the man. But from all accounts there is only one Reagan, and the private Reagan is identical to the public Reagan. If that's true, and I think that it is, then there is a paradox. The only American president to have been a professional actor was the only 100 percent authentic person to occupy the White House since Harry Truman. In other words, he was never acting.
