If Buchanan gets the Reform Party nomination, there is a splinter group that would likely go their own way and nominate a liberal. Now that would be fun.

I was a volunteer in a gubernatorial campaign in 94 that was a 4 person race. It was great, it might be one for the textbooks. There were 2 conservatives and 2 liberals. The vote breakdown was this:

Center/right (Republican) 37% This was John Rowland.
Right (Independence) 11% My guy, a local talk radio host who was a former state senator.
Center/left (The Connecticut Party) mid 20's This was Lowell Weicker's party. It went downhill after he bailed out.
Left (Democrat) mid 20's

It goes to show that we need not be a 2 party system. Its when theres 3 candidates that things get screwed up.
