No Hype.

Tivo will control an important part of the home real estate. 4 years ago the battle was for your desktop, then the web top, but now it is the set top. MS wants in, but webtv sucks, and MS is just a software company!

Tivo will likely be embedded in DSS systems and will eventually make their money off advertising and ecommerce.
To argue that $500 bucks is too expensive is ignorant. Cell phones once cost ( I know, I bought one ) over $1500 installed. TV`s, communications, Satellite Dish, luxury automobiles, Air Travel, you name it.. History suggests that all the good stuff starts at an expensive price tag.

Besides, If RealNetworks is worth for 7.5Billion just making a 2 inch choppy video appear in my browser window, I am willing to bet that tivo is worth more than 2 Billion for doing something that makes more sense, delivering high bandwidth content over the medium it was meant to be delivered: broadband. And don`t even tell me this is happening today because it isn`t and you know it. Tivo is how it should be done, the Internet will never deliver high bandwidth movies in a mass market! If I want a movie, it will be delivered into my hard disk overnight, when the rates are cheap. That is what time based delivery is all about... btw we do this today when we go to blockbuster and view the tape later on in the weekend.

That said, I am out at 51 but looking for the dips! And I am not talking about you dips who chose to bash others. Life is way too short for such juvenile games and there is way too much money to be made (and spent)!

BTW I just made 30K off of Tivo from the beaches of Perto Vallerta, Kind of surreal!

I believe in technology like anyone else. I was touting the net in 94, but lets keep it in perspective. It gets to a point where it becomes too much. Simplicity is the key. Some of the things your talking about, is way to much input and almost to the point of being offensive and irritating to me. You might notice this from your comment on watching Seinfeld. Why was that a popular show? It was due to the simple issues and delt with what people find enjoying, personal relationships and humor. Not high tech in your face new technology bullshit. This goes same for the net. What do you want to look at, a bunch of flashing waving adds or simple information in which your brain can decipher and use. I don't need all the fluff. I need what will help me get on, get the info I want and incorporated in a format I can use. So as far as the great possiblities, these are based on assumptions that people want to be that interactive with these products. Lets face it, just turning on the TV with the remote is sometimes as much interaction we want with a TV.
As far as this product, the concept seems nice but the price to me seems prohibited from a broad market standpoint..499 and 10 a month is alot of money for people if this is the only thing that you can use it for. Many people have a VCR and can do the same thing with a little effort so you have to have a price that makes it attractive. If it was 99 bucks or incorporated into a setop box then that is another deal. I would probably pay for it if it was all rapped up into my cable contract and box. But I am sure this company has much up it sleave so I only would coment on the current idea rather than their plan going forward.
