"I think of it as having a very high emotional content." utterly
fantastic observation..that just goes with some many psychological
studies on attitude change..
Actually I don't see how we can have a disaster now..wouldn't it appear that a lot of the heavily leveraged players might have had
their heads handed to them...with the yen and gold carry trades
..I don't know if heavy leveraged players in bond markets got hurt?
except I am assuming they did since they probably used those carry trades to help finance their leverage and get out of their positions with losses on both sides and then hurt others who were leveraged? (always guessing)
L.K was very funny today and he finally sounded rational to me..I wish I had jotted down his comments..but basically it appeared he thought of greenspan as a bird..a chicken..I have up until last week always discounted him..he might be a bit manic(I shouldn't throw stones :-)
with the new paradigm..this time I didn't hear him mention new paradigm..I agree with your approach ..long cycles but always cycles..
I also agree with you re let the markets determine value of dollar etc..if governments try to manipulate somebody always comes along and
plays the policy and creates gains and havoc :-) but that should be
much harder to do in a "natural flow"...
He did mention need for strong dollar..
Turned tv back on and low and behold Joe Carson was on..I think he has a great track record and seems very down to earth..don't know if you follow him at all..If you do.what do you think?
He said that he thinks people are underestimating the strength of our economy and more importantly in my mind at least..strength of global
economy..if I heard correctly he thinks interest rates should be a lot higher and that won't led to a recession..
wonder if Alan is going to remain a bird?

(it really sounds as if the bottom of gold is in now and should continue its trend now? )
another question do markets need those heavily leveraged players for liquidity or could it do okay without them?
