Two new models were announced in Japan for the Japanese domestic market and seven new models were announced for the U.S. market. The models for the U.S. include four new VAIO 505 super slim notebooks: VAIO Z505RX, VAIO Z505R, VAIO N505VX, and VAIO N505VE; and three new VAIO F300 series notebooks, with digital video and photo editing capabilities. VAIO 505 Super Slim Notebooks The Sony VAIO Z505RX and VAIO Z505R models are equipped with brilliant XGA active matrix displays for viewing presentations, graphics, and video images. Both models carry powerful Intel Pentium II processors, 400MHz and 366MHz, respectively, and come with bundled multimedia software for transforming video clips into panoramic still images and for playback of animated image files such as movie clips. The original 505 series that garnered a Mobility Award in the "Ultralight Category" from Mobile Insights in February 1999 also incorporated NeoMagic accelerators. The Sony VAIO N505VX and N505VE super slim models are designed to offer increased graphics and multimedia capabilities to value conscious consumers who want the sleek 3.5 pound profile, enabled by the embedded memory technology of the MagicMedia256AV. These models are also delivered with bundled software that allows users to edit and create full-motion video, still photography; web-designs with "virtual" photo albums, and video email. "Sony's new VAIO notebooks take advantage of the built-in imaging capabilities of the MagicMedia256AV to deliver still and video photographic capabilities to notebook PC users who require portable, yet robust desktop-like performance while on the road," said Larry Chisvin, director of product marketing for NeoMagic's Multimedia Products Division. "NeoMagic's embedded memory technology allows us to continually incorporate the newest technologies, including imaging capabilities and integrated audio, into a high-performance single chip accelerator. This capability allows us to offer our OEM customers the ability to build higher performance portable PCs, in thinner and lighter designs while also lowering power consumption for longer battery life." Full-sized VAIO F300 Series Sony's all-in-one high performance F300 series notebooks include the PCG-F360, PCG-F350, and PCG-F340 notebooks with full digital video and photo editing capabilities. The F300 series models offer large brilliant displays and weigh less than seven pounds in a sleek mobile design that is less than 1.7 inches thick. These models offer a three-spindle design with dual batteries and DVD movie playback capabilities for frequent travelers who want dynamic multimedia presentations or video email.
