I would argue that it's a good thing for the consumer, but don't know whether it's a good thing for the investor, overall.

BTW, didn't want to get into it with you re: cable internet over on the G2NT thread, but I disagree that installation of cable internet is more expensive than DSL. But I threw away the stuff I got when I was comparison-shopping, just going on memory here. As you know, we just got our new house, and I got the cable modem installed when they turned on the cable. Everything was included in the house call, except the price of the modem "installation," but I got a discount on that because my computer already had a NIC card. Bell Atlantic also charges a fee when they turn on DSL, it's comparable, or more, can't remember.

And the monthly charges are either the same or less for cable, but for sure the cable is faster.

I don't really notice much difference, except when downloading files, then it's like magic, it's so fast. But SI is still slower than molasses.
