Stephen & intel Investors - Level One Introduces New Tranceiver IC for T1/E1 Communications Line Card segment.

It isn't much, but it keeps adding to Intel's Communications arsenal.

And at $29/chip, it may generate some pocket change for re-investment !

Level One Communications Samples Four Port T1/E1 Short Haul Transceiver

Level One Sets New Quality of Service Standard with Hitless Protection Switching

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 1999--Level One Communications Inc., an Intel company, today announced sampling of the LXT386, a quad 3.3V T1/E1 short haul Line Interface Unit (LIU) which sets a new quality of service standard with Hitless Protection Switching (HPS).

This unique capability allows switch over from the main board to the backup board in less than 1 microsecond, over 1,000 times faster than existing solutions. This is a key capability in fully redundant systems and is made possible by Level One's fast tristate-able drivers and constant delay jitter attenuator.

The LXT386 is designed for a wide range of systems applications including SONET/SDH add/drop multiplexers, E1-E3 & M13 multiplexers, and microwave radios and complements Level One's comprehensive T1/E1 short haul product line. Level One is the only company to offer a complete selection of single, dual, quad and octal channel LIUs.

Level One's LXT386 includes a Hitless Protection Switching (HPS) feature which increases quality of service in redundancy applications by preventing frame or synchronization loss. Fast tristate-able drivers and a constant delay jitter attenuator are critical to achieving HPS. Fast tristate-able drivers eliminates space consuming mechanical relays and allow switching from the main board to the backup board in less than 1 microsecond, over 1,000 times faster than existing solutions. The constant delay jitter attenuator provides a seamless transition while switching between boards.

The LXT386 incorporates four receivers and transmitters in a single 14x14mm 100-pin LQFP. A 15x15mm 160-ball BGA version is also available and compatible with Level One's LXT380, LXT381, LXT384 eight port devices.

Pricing and Availability

The LXT386 samples are currently available with volume production in Q3 1999. The LXT386 in LQFP packaging will be priced at $29.40 in units of 1,000.
