The Sister That Never Was: One of the most persistent myths about the Hogg family is the existence of a fictitious sister of Miss Ima, a so-called Yura Hogg. The story of her "sister" ostensibly grew out of an incident in which Ima and a little girl friend sat on the stage while her father, the governor gave a political speech. During the speech he tried to make the audience feel they were part of his administration by saying "I'm a Hogg and you're a Hogg" while inadvertently waving in the direction of Ima and her friend. Some in the audience thought he was introducing his daughters (i.e., "Ima Hogg and Yura Hogg").

At a social occasion many years ago, a slightly inebriated man had the audacity to walk up to Miss Ima, who was amongst a group of friends, and inquire about her sister "Yura." Miss Ima's friends were aghast and waited for a withering response from Ima, who was never known to mince words. To their surprise, however, Miss Hogg said calmly that although there was never a Yura Hogg, she had always wished for a little sister while she was growing up.
