Thanks for the great response, I think I get what you're trying to say, but still cannot believe it. Even your guess as to how it could have happened is too far fetched, and it's not even necessarily true.

How do such large changes occur, how does a beetle start to produce another chemical that has never been produced by any of his parents??? (ie the anti inhibitor) This sort of change cannot happen in one generation obviously, but how can you go a small part of the way to producing a new chemical, that's just illogical.

Maybe I am not clear on your explanation, if so please tell me where I'm not getting it. :-) thanks
