What do you think are the chances that AMD will be able to produce a lot of K7's?

Paul Engel is of the opinion that with the K6's they were always behind the 8-ball and rushing to keep up with Intel in performance so they were never able to get a mature process going.

Now with what appears to be a superior design it seems to me like they may have bought themselves some time. I don't think Paul thinks that way though. Is the Athlon too big or too complex to ever produce in profitable numbers? Or is AMD simply too far behind in the development of their process technology?

The Barrons article this weekend on Intel pointed out how when Barret came aboard he went to extreme lengths to bring the company up to par with the Asians in manufacturing efficiency and that that has been a major reason for Intel's success since then.
