Solid and alarming majorities said they had very little or absolutely no knowledge of or comfort with nearly every category listed (see Figure 3, page 49). Whether it was data/IP protocols (67 percent), the DOCSIS standard (77.8 percent), Ethernet networks (69.6 percent), Ethernet card installs (68.6 percent), Quality of Service parameters (89.1 percent), voice-over-IP (86 percent), Universal Serial Bus technologies (83.8 percent), FireWire-IEEE 1394 (91.4 percent), data fragmentation (84.8 percent), application program interface issues (82.5 percent), packet technologies (76.7 percent) or bit error rate testing (70.8 percent), disturbingly large majorities of the overall respondents are essentially in the dark about some very important subjects. dh
