Lockheed Martin Fighter Plant Integrates NewsEdge Solution

LMTAS Enhances Internal Defense and Aerospace Information System with NewsEdge Review Topics

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 1999--NewsEdge Corporation, the independent leader in news and current awareness solutions, today announced that it has signed a new agreement with Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems (LMTAS) to provide industry news to employees in its Fort Worth, Tx. facilities.

Some 100 NewsEdge Review(TM) topics, focusing on defense and aerospace, will be integrated into LMTAS's intranet to help employees stay current with the latest news affecting their industry. Using the company's Aeronautical Systems Knowledge (ASK) system, users will be able to read news along with internally generated research and information, consolidating their information resources into one convenient tool.

"Our goal is to combine our information assets together into one centralized `Knowledge Center,' making it easy and efficient for our employees to find the information they need to keep them productive and competitive," said Dan West, LMTAS' ASK Project Manager. "The ability to integrate news feeds from NewsEdge helps achieve that objective, because it allows us to incorporate the latest industry news into the resources they use to do their jobs each day."

"Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems has recognized a crucial truth in managing the knowledge assets of an organization," said NewsEdge President and COO Cliff Pollan. "The more streamlined peoples' access is to the information they need to do their jobs, the more productive, efficient and successful they will be with that information."

The 100 different NewsEdge Review topics being fed into LMTAS's ASK system are generated by the NewsEdge Refinery(TM), a unique two-step news processing method that produces concise daily briefings on the most important industry-specific, general business and company news. An automated filter processes some 500 different news sources into categories in the first step; industry-expert reviewers cull through them in the second step, eliminating repetition and helping to lend some context to the day's news. Every business day, the news is organized into more than 1500 NewsEdge Review topics.
