NEW YORK, Oct 6, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Global Sight Corp., the
leading provider of enterprise solutions for Web site globalization,
announced today that Palm Computing(R) Inc., a 3Com company
(Nasaq:COMS), has selected the Global Sight Ambassador 1.8 application
to assist in developing a multilingual Web presence.

Global Sight?s software enables enterprises to transform their
single-language Web sites into a centrally-managed
multilingual-multicultural Web presence.

With over 4 million units sold, Palm Computing is becoming the
international standard for handheld computing. According to IDC, Palm
holds a 73 percent share of the personal companion market in the U.S.
and a 68 percent share worldwide. To accommodate increasing marketshare
and dominance in the handheld industry, the company?s customer service
organization (CSO) led the drive to globalize Palm Computing?s Web site
using Global Sight?s technology.

The project will involve localizing customer support content to meet
the language and cultural requirements of the company?s French- and
German-speaking markets. By providing multilingual, online technical
support, the company expects to reduce the number of customer calls and
significantly lower support costs.

"www.palm.com is like a portal for our handheld devices. Our Web site
provides the latest information on handhelds, developer resources and
support, sales, and third-party software. And as a portal, we needed to
address the global diversity of our customers," said Tom Hoglund,
manager of online solutions for Palm Computing Inc. "By streamlining
our Web-centered support and resource services, Global Sight Ambassador
will help us enhance our global customer relationships and maintain our
solid market leadership."

A key factor in Palm Computing?s selection of Global Sight Ambassador
1.8 was the application?s management model, which will allow Palm
Computing to centrally manage multiple localization projects at
corporate headquarters while empowering the local levels of the
organization worldwide to edit and review content. Additional
influential elements Palm cited in its decision include Global Sight?s
track record, stability, funding, and capable management team.

"For a company of Palm?s size, process is paramount," said Jorden
Woods, chief executive officer of Global Sight. "Global Sight
Ambassador will enable Palm to centrally manage translations of content
across a globally distributed team while still allowing local input and
review. Also, it efficiently handles the frequent, small -- yet
important -- content changes Palm anticipates making. With other
approaches, without a streamlined process in place, such changes might
be obsolete by the time they were implemented."

Global Sight Ambassador version 1.8 includes enhanced linguistic
technologies, notably centralized translation memory, which enables
companies to leverage previously translated content across the site for
faster localization turnaround times, reduced translation costs, and
improved translation quality and consistency. Global Sight?s
centralized translation memory supports industry-standard TMX format
for importing legacy translation memory data, allowing organizations to
build on the translation assets from previous localization efforts.
