There is no question as to the advantages of DSL over cable... but it still comes down to price and availability. Two years ago at this time, BC Tel was just a few weeks away from a large scale DSL roll out. Today, the roll out is barely creeping along and it isn't even close to being rolled out in all of the major centers.

Cable has been in all the major centers for at least 2 years now and they definitely have a HUGE head start in my area. I have enjoyed the use of cable for all of that time, and will likely not switch even when DSL is finally available.
