Actually, TB isn't caused by a virus, but by a bacillus, which is a type of bacteria. It can be transmitted by physical contact, but it can also be transmitted by sneezing, coughing, and such, where saliva or sputum goes into the air, but the distance is limited. So you aren't going to get it just from the air, but from air breathed by an infected person. I don't know how long it can live outside the body, but it's not for an unlimited time. You would generally need to be in an enclosed area to get it from an infected person without physical contact.
