George, warren buffet doesn't understand technology and therefore doesn't invest in it. He still does ok, so hopefully you will too.

As for the future, PVR make people's viewing choices easier and more convient and they will be soon be cheap enough for the mass market. ( can I assume you just bought your first vcr last year when they finally hit the sub-100 mark - how did you afford to but you SI posting fees?)

I wish I could articulate all the values of a PVR, the freedom it provides and the benefits it will provide. Like it or not, the majority of the US is captive to their televisions and 'must see tv'. The ability to watch shows when I decide to watch them is incredibly liberating (I suppose this is a sad comentary on my life but..)

I purchased my replay for $900 and bought the 14 hr version. After 1 day I realised I made a mistake and should have purchased the maximum configuration (currently 28 hrs). I know my mother would love a PVR if they were available in canada. To this day she still can't program a simple vcr and is even afaid the the vcr+ commands. With a PVR is it just point and click.

Maybe I need to compile a list of reason why PVRs are as great as I think they are.

ps. Contrary to the someone else opinion mentioned a few messages back.. I believe that bandwidth will be big enought to support streaming on-demand video (and probably within 5 years). At that time, the value of pvr diminished

george What got you all excited. I bought a few shares on the open market after the ipo. Hopefully, I will make enough to buy one of these machines.
