Why would you expect tax related selling next week in particular? There was no spike in volume a year ago. Presumably, investors who habitually sell only after holding a year would be selling just as many shares whether they bought in Aug, Sept, Oct, etc. What significance do the lows in Oct. have?

You might be right. Perhaps there's no statistical significance I don't know. I'm not talking about Q in particular either. I just suspect that many are sitting on VERY profitable positions initiated in October 98 and have been waiting for Lt cap gains to take profits...
