i can't say how or why the street values companies
but without the amati acquisition of intellectual property
or the ability to produce chips or having been already a large modem maker with an ongoing mfg facility
yes wstl was never going to challenge major players in the game
with all new technology the time to market is sometimes long and the road changes too much
as with amati
they had the goods but ran out of money before deployment was even close to being close
wstl was in the communications business at the correct time but as time grew longer too many others came with their own

there are too many factors to go into
but looking back they would have needed the jpc contract a long time ago to be the magnitude of the company that people want them to be today
i do not believe anyone is making tons money yet in dsl as equip mfg this will come in time and wstl as a nitch player has for now a plan to be a value added player in dsl
sincerely
marc
