The PM Mr Vajpayee wins; Sonia Gandhi leads in Bellary

The Prime Minister Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee has won from Lucknow,
defeating his Congress rival Dr Karan Singh by 1,20,000 votes, a drop
of a lakh from his victory margin in the last election. Mr Vajpayee has
won from Lucknow three times previously. In another high profile
contest , Congress President Sonia Gandhi is leading over Sushma
Swaraj of the BJP, by more than 8,000 votes. Mrs Gandhi is also
standing from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, where the first round of
counting is in progress.
