My understanding is that at the five year mark you are probably experiencing a battery that's at the end of its life. Check your owners manual and see if you would be comfortable with changing it yourself. If not, have a friend who knows what they're doing change it or a computer shop, Comp USA etc. do it. Good luck!

Actually, the lose of time is common with computers when they are on. However, if the time does not get corrected when the system is rebooted then you may have a battery issue. The clock that you see when the computer is on is a DOS program and is not the clock that the battery is controlling.
