Agreed, John; and I can understand CMon's viewpoint about *crappy* floating targets. The whole idea of setting a price target and selling machine-like when it's hit likely results in a profitable system but doesn't consider the changes in the business prospects and peripheral environment that have taken place since the price target was established. I think we've all seen those price targets that come out occasionally that are actually lower than the current market value of the stock (are they proposing a short?).

Enough from me on this topic; if analyst upgrade/downgrades came to a screeching halt this instant, it wouldn't affect my investing approach one bit. Although, there might be a smoothing effect on the price of individual stocks.

(Remember the downgrades on Qcom recently? And about 100 points ago? Doesn't mean they were bad calls just because the stock continues to fly and the future looks bright but we'll all find out.)
