On cable modems: Look for deregulation to bring down the price and change the business territory. For example, the CRTC (the Canadian communications and broadcasting regulator) just ruled that cable companies must arrange to lease their cable pipes to competitive carriers. So this is telephone deregulation all over again. What is going on in the US in this regard?

On another point, check out companies that deal in fibre optics (FO). Bandwith is growing at a rate of 100% a year and companies like JDS Uinphase (JDSU.Nasdaq; JDSU.Toronto Exchange)have similar growth curves. With all of us poised in the next 1 to 5 years to go on to high speed hookups, bandwith growth can only accelerate. The growth story in FO companies is not nearly as well-known as that of the chip makers and semi caps or the networking firms. But, I think this may be a bigger story over the next five years as the internet continues its massive penetration.
