BigStar Entertainment CEO David Friedensohn Talks to The Wall Street Transcript
NEW YORK, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wall Street Transcript has published an in-depth interview with David Friedensohn, Chairman and CEO of BigStar Entertainment (Nasdaq: BGST - news), in which he talks at length about his company's future.

The entire 4,700 word interview is available free online at twst.com

He says, ``BigStar is the leading on-line marketer of filmed entertainment products, based on customer traffic on the worldwide web today. We are a filmed entertainment superstore and we sell every format that customers use in viewing filmed entertainment today, which includes videos, DVDs and laser discs. We have four Web sites to target purchasers of filmed entertainment products.'

He explains, ``At bigstar.com, the main web site includes feature films, TV shows on video, and educational, health, fitness and instructional videos. We have a children's Web site at abcbigstar.com that targets the very important filmed entertainment market for children; bigstardvd.com focuses on DVD enthusiasts; and astrofile.com, a content-only Web site that's designed to attract customers to BigStar by having a wealth of information on Hollywood celebrities.'

He asserts, ``We founded the company on the firm belief that e-commerce -- electronic commerce -- on the Web is really electronic direct marketing. We are really not a bricks and mortar retailer brought to the Web. We consider ourselves a direct marketer brought to the Web. We have developed innovative software ourselves that we own entirely that we call BigStar Direct(TM) Software, that allows us to customize promotions to individuals based on what an individual has looked at on our site and what they've bought previously. So we can actually target very narrow customer segments directly by using our innovative software to match a customer's profile with products that we know that customer will be more apt to buy.'

Looking forward, he states, ``In the long term, we believe that gross margins can increase dramatically as we move more and more towards the digital downloads of films and further away from the physical delivery of product. In the long term, which is in the three to 10-year horizon, you'll start to see gross margins increase tremendously as the distributors cut is eliminated.'

This interview is also part of The Wall Street Transcript's Technology sector which is available at twst.com or by calling 212-952-7433.
