The source for the Dell preannouncement rumor appears to be incorrect, at least from a timing perspective. However, going into the holiday season, with supply problems looming and component prices soaring, the stage does seem to be set for an earnings miss.

Calvin, I just got of the phone with Dell Investor Relations.

I was told not to believe that report and there was no reason why such a report would be out there.

Pat

Dell Entices Irish Staff With Lottery to Beat Staffing Crisis

Dublin, Oct. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Dell Computer Corp., the world's biggest direct seller of personal computers, is investing $50,000 in a staff lottery and other incentives to beat a staffing crisis at the company's manufacturing plant in the western Irish city of Limerick, the Irish Times said. Dell has sent a letter to every house in the city offering 65 hours temporary work each week this month, the newspaper said. Dell already employs 3,500 people in Limerick, or about 5 percent of the city's population.

Dell's Limerick operations provide computers for Europe, the Middle East and Africa; the company employs a further 650 people at a customer support service center in Bray outside Dublin.
