JRI Re: "Pat...geez....let's start a web site...print daily rumors and buy/short the companies we laud/trash.."

Why I do believe that is exactly what this gentleman is saying, per the below quote from his website. Unbelievable!!

"Readers have asked us why we report rumors that we hear, even when they seem to be false. The reason is that stocks move on rumors, and if a stock makes a move up on a false rumor you are presented with a shorting opportunity. You also need to know what the street is hearing. For years buy and sell siders (buy siders buy and sell stocks for clients- mutual funds, money managers, etc., sell siders are the investment banks and research houses) circulated rumors while you were left in the dark. Finally, the Internet is bridging the information gap. Now you can know what they hear.

We have instituted a certainty rating system that our analysts use to offer their opinions on rumors, with a 1 being very unlikely to occur, and a 10 as almost certain, a 5 would designate that a rumor could go either way. In some cases, we may also offer an anticipated timeline."

Check it out for yourself!

John, I picked this up from the StreetAdvisor.com this morning. Despite the potential negatives for DELL I will have a clear indication of DELL's quarter when I receive the IDC numbers October 22.

A financial news site published a report on the possibility of Dell missing earnings for the quarter. The combined facts pointing towards a tough quarter for Dell include:

Dell has told analysts to expect revenues to be at the low end of the range for the quarter. Dell will have to provide more guidance than this at today's annual analyst meeting.
Memory (DRAM) prices are soaring, as supplies are crimped. These prices are cutting into Dell's margins, especially on higher end computers.
Graphic chip sets are also reportedly in tight supply, cutting into margins, but more significantly hurting ship times.
Earlier in the quarter Dell reportedly (and according to StreetAdvisor.com's experience) experienced significant delays in the shipment of its top of the line servers.
Dell can not ship some versions of its laptops for 14-30 days, and is instead encouraging customers to buy older models with price cuts. Not only is Dell losing sales outright, but they are encouraging those that stick with Dell to buy a lower revenue, lower margin product.
Other PC makers, that keep a supply of inventory on hand (opposed to Dell's "just in time" system) will be able to bear with shortages, and meet customer demand, easier than Dell.
Hewlett-Packard has also guided analysts estimates downward. The factor cited is supply problems. Hewlett's problems are the industry's problems.
