To Mike's Post on GLM error messages,

Thanks, you've restored my belief that there is intelligence on the thread. I've been involved with FC developments with a number of companies starting in early 1988, and as you say these kinds of problems do arise with every new design, and, in most cases they are fixed.

To my knowledge the latest Vix switches are supported by GBIC modules as opposed to GLMs, I'd be interested to know if GBICs are prone to the same type of degradation/dt? The GBIC is only a small part of their overall product lineup of managed hubs AND switches, therefore IMO, since the GBIC is a "standard product" it could be diplaced without throwing out the hub and the switch which represent the bulk of the revenue for Vixel anyway.

Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) = Vixel...
good name!

Unlike others in the FC space, Vixel developed their own chips. Their costs are much lower therefore and by virtue they are one of very few able to compete in the low-end (read that high-volume) market space. Half a million ports and counting, ask your cohorts how that compares with the other guys.

Long on Vixel, longer on Fibre Channel,

WB
