It is up to you. What captures on many stocks the view you think would help. I mainly use standard error. If you are wondering what is a major pivot, It is when three higher highs and 3 higher lows are made in a row on the up side. The down side is 3 lower highs and 3 lower lows. inside days don't count.

To some extent, the pivots chosen depends on the term of your trades. the way to find this out might be again to look at many charts, how long does a trend last? Get the feel for which high or low pivot you will use for the channel.

I just received an email from Robert B. McKinnon who wrote an article in TASC on Enhanced Raff Regression Channels. He has created a web site devoted to channels that may be of interest to you. I only visited the site last night so I am not that familiar with it but it seems very professional.
