Where am I coming from? My father was drafted in the Korean war, but never was sent to Korea. Nevertheless, he served his country, I believe. It can't possibly compare with the sacrifice made by the veterans who served in Korea, of course, but he served, nonetheless.

Not exactly the same thing as sporting a Purple Heart you bought at a pawn shop, IMO.

You know what it's like? Remember the General- he wore a service pin for some duty he hadn't earned- he KILLED himself over the embarrassment of the truth coming out. And he had actually served in combat, as I recall, just not that particular combat. There was a big debate after his death- some said he was even entitled to wear the whatever-it-was. So there's one honorable man, unhinged, but honorable. I know that's very Japanese of me, but I like people who kill themselves out of shame. I wish more people would do it. I have a list of possible candidates.
