I've ever seen has yield as the percentage of good chips, not the number of chips per wafer - so the reason Jerry sounded so happy about the yield increase at .18 was it meant a quadrupling of good die per wafer over the .25 process. Double the percentage of good chips times twice as many good chips per wafer.

AMD claimed in the CC that were getting 2X the number of good die per wafer at "0.18u" vs "0.25u". That's not a statement about yield, although you can infer the relative yield from it if you know the new die size (not given).
