I see, boarding school was integral to the system. I have read of people who were privately prepped, and it was my understanding that they could stand for entrance examinations to university. C.S. Lewis, for example, quit boarding school and went with a private tutor, and entered Oxford (or was it Cambridge) upon examination. And wasn't there a movie about a Welsh lad who prepped with his school marm and gained admittance?...I believe it was "How Green Was My Valley?", and that it was ultimately based on a true story....
