Indian jeweller flees after losses on gold
A

N Indian jeweller has fled the United Arab Emirates, leaving behind a multi-million-dollar trail of debts after heavy losses speculating on gold, a newspaper reported here yesterday. Rajesh Dhinoja, who ran Rajesh Jewellery and had worked in the capital of the United Arab Emirates for 30 years, disappeared five days ago, the Gulf Today quoted market sources as saying.

At least three overseas banks had lent him money, the daily said, estimating total debts at around US$5 million (S$8.5 million). BR Shetty, who owns the Abu Dhabi gold centre, said the sudden recovery in gold prices left the jeweller unable to cover his position.

Mr Dhinoja, who is believed to have gone to the United States, also took money from individuals and offered as much as 10 per cent monthly interest in return. Gold prices soared to the highest levels for more than two years in London on Tuesday in continuing euphoria after 15 European central banks decided on Sept 26 to hold back from fresh bullion sales. -- AFP

Hi Searle:

Sorry about all the confusion the other day between Godsell and Cockerill. Clearly now that I see the details I should have identified Cockerill.

The NR which was posted by Ptaskmaster indicated that he was a director, but at first I couldn't find him on the pages you kndly sent me. When I got some time to poke around he showed up on another page as an "Executive Officer".

Now I'm clear, confused still but clear about it. Thanks for your help. You don't have to sit at your keyboard 24 hrs a day just in case we ask you dumb questions you know.

Got to spend time wit your bones too.

Regards, and stay well.

Searle and to Guru Tom...........
....to Tom.......for your hopes and charts.........

"One womans opinion"...this is for Searle.....so he can identify me........

Thanks to your insights....and analysis of the international gold market.......

I thank you for the information that you gave to the web......and on that information, I chose to buy GLG and HM.......basically unhedged stocks.........as the hedge position I was uncomfortable with......as I like the money to come to the bottom line.....

and in your comments I chose my positions.........

possibly contrary......but thanks for my education........even though I have been an investor for a decade plus at times...in gold and silver..........but always a small (now) silver position......as SSC did a reverse split..........:)
Again Thanks to two gentlemen on SI.......local and Africanar......good evening guys.........Karen

Searle.......I do not know what the spelling of African(er)(ir)(ar)...which is correct?..... or if the term is correct........just that you abide in an area of South Africa......your insight has been much appreciated...Karen
