Ubiquity Software Announces Application Solutions for I-Links UP Telephony Services OCTOBER 7, 1999 OTTAWA, ONTARIO--Ubiquity Software Corporation, today announced that I-Link, an enhanced voice/data service provider, will use the company's Helmsman platform and Service Creation Environment to further enhance its service offering for telephony subscribers. The Helmsman Platform creates a seamless connection and unites a complex array of telecom network resources with custom and off-the-shelf applications. I-Link will install Helmsman server and client technology in its network and customer sites to allow familiar desktop applications like Microsoft Explorer and Microsoft Outlook to be Internet Protocol (IP) telephony enabled. With Helmsman, I-Link customers can "point and click" on extensions and phone numbers to make calls and conduct unified communications over I-Link's nationally deployed IP network. I-Link offers a full range of enhanced services such as one-number call routing, caller screening, unified voice fax, pager and e-mail messaging, voice-and fax-on-demand, conference calling, and seamless call transfer from cell phone to land-line and vice-versa via a direct connection to its enhanced IP telecommunications network. "While other carriers are just talking about implementing new innovative services, I-Link has already done this and is now taking their service offering to a new level with the Helmsman platform," Mike Doyle, CTO, Ubiquity Software said. "In addition, the Helmsman platform eases integration, presents a common interface, increases accessibility and improves business processes." According to Robert H. Scott, President and CEO of Octave Communications, "Anything and everything via the Internet is hot and why not? Ease of use and accessibility can't be challenged. "Some innovative service providers are realizing they need to arm themselves with an array of enhanced services in order to survive. The new telco world they will face awards no points for second place." "In order for consumers to benefit from new technology and services, solutions need to be accessible and easy to use," said Mark Hewitt, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for I-Link. "The Helmsman platform further enables us to deliver the latest telecommunications enhanced services in an easy to use platform." "The e-commerce potential is exciting.
