ADC put out release this morning regarding Phasecom, a private
company that some early on Hybrid nomads passed through or may
still be there but may be second source for MDS modems.

While Sprint PCS will run that business, have you heard who will
win out on MDS as Sprint transferred its corporate development head
Tim Sutton to run this arena under Kevin Brauer and whilte they were
further along in integration and planning WCOM was centering matters under SkyTel head John Stempka. From an org chart view
I would put PCS & paging together and keep BWA seperate.

Key TBD is whether MDS bandplan Sprint circulated which reportedly uses all 13 commercial MDS channels (2 MDS @ 2.150 GHz plus from 2.5-2.7 GHz use 8 MMDS + 3 H channels, each channel being 6 MHz, plus some of the ITFS channels that don't have video requirements to add up to 96+ of the 198 MHz that was
referred to as wireless cable or MMDS but from purist viewpoint is
just MDS) has throughput to handle SSB referenced heavy data
centric customers. Bandplan also allows use of WCS at 2.3 GHz as
well as MDS 1&2 at 2.150-2.162 for upstream.

Argument of millimeter guys is that MDS does not offer up enough
symettry for power server customers, may be OK for SOHO to slightly
larger customers. My view again for more universal footprint as well
as for large buildings not on fiber but near main arteries is that the
gorillas will need to own their own millimeter frequencies. Whether
they buy existants or take chance on 38 and 24 GHz auctions is a
strategic question but quite a few risks in waiting.
