>Does this imply BEL will wean itself away from TLAB? Unclear where the overlap is betwenn MFNX and TLAB.<

SL.

not at all. the muffin (MFNX) is a pure "dark fiber" (i.e., unlit) operation; in other words, MFNX rents access to its networks to various customers, including local phone service providers, long-distance carriers, wireless operators (paging, cellular, PCS), ISPs, etc. many of these contracts are 20+ years.

not to shamelessly plug, but MFNX concentrates in metropolitan areas (hence, its name); their network is capable of OC192 rates for all the high-end data apps like voiceover Internet Protocol [VoIP), video teleconferencing, Frame Relay, ATM. in the intracity, they employ SONET ring architectures and even DWDM (dense wave division multiplexing).

so, BEL is TLAB's largest customer. BEL is taking a stake in MFNX. and what might TLAB provide this entree to muffin? eventually, i hope, optical cross-connects.
