NEW YORK, Oct 7, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cardservice International Inc. and Interliant Inc. (Nasdaq:INIT) Thursday announced that they have signed a letter of intent to launch an implementation of IBM Net.Commerce Hosting Server to provide small businesses with a complete end-to-end electronic commerce solution that includes site and catalog creation, business and site analysis, and secure e-payments. This e-business solution, using IBM software, will be hosted by Interliant with transaction processing provided by Cardservice International (CSI). This turnkey solution, announced at Fall Internet World '99, will provide small businesses with robust IBM technology and will allow merchants to quickly establish a Web presence at a price they find attractive. "IBM is pleased that CSI and Interliant have selected Net.Commerce Hosting Server to provide hosted e-commerce to merchants taking their businesses online," said Dave Liederbach, vice president of marketing, e-commerce, IBM Software Solutions. "With IBM's leading Net.Commerce Hosting Server software and Interliant's hosting capabilities, CSI can reach out to the growing number of small and medium businesses in search of a hosted alternative for doing e-commerce." "As more and more small businesses look to e-commerce to give them a competitive advantage, Interliant's implementation of hosted solutions provides them with an easy way to quickly get up and running," said Interliant Director David Link. "By providing an IBM e-commerce solution, Interliant and Cardservice remove the burden of operating and maintaining sophisticated e-commerce systems from our customers so they can focus their efforts on delivering the best products and services." "We will not continue to see the fantastic growth of e-business without secure e-payments. The Net.Commerce Hosting Server solution should meet that need in an easy-to-manage and incredibly simple way," said Chuck Burtzloff, president and chief executive officer of Cardservice International. "Prospective online merchants will be able to set up stores on the Internet in hours, complete with the assurance that they will be accepted for payment processing. We expect this to be a major accelerant to the growth of e-commerce." IBM Net.Commerce Hosting Server is an integrated software package for commerce server providers (CSPs), which are businesses that facilitate some or all aspects of electronic commerce for other businesses. This solution allows CSPs to set up and operate low-maintenance, hosted e-commerce services for multiple sellers in a shared commerce server environment. It allows small- and medium-sized businesses lacking the internal expertise or resources to quickly establish a secure e-commerce solution that can be extended and enhanced with premium options. It includes the ability to customize commerce processes for each unique business, as well as tools and reports for analyzing site activity and business results. Cardservice International's industry-leading automated online merchant approval system allows business owners to apply and be pre-approved for a Cardservice account. Merchants will be able to set up their stores using the Net.Commerce Hosting Server, and process payments through Cardservice's LinkPoint Secure Payment Gateway. Merchants with no Web site authoring experience will be able to have their stores online in hours. This turnkey e-commerce solution will be demonstrated at Fall Internet World '99 in New York City, Oct. 4-8. It is anticipated that, in the next 12 months, thousands of merchants will be e-commerce-enabled with this product.
