I'm sure this is one of the events that Tim often refers to as a "head fake".

CS is NSYE and therefore there is a specialist. ALSO, one can set sell stop orders should the price decline below a set level. These stop orders show up on their screens. (Sometimes a good strategy for an unstable market, but a terrible strategy for a stock in play).

Often when a stock surges up over a couple of days people go and reset their stop orders. Now the specialist can bring the stock down, wipe out these suckers stop orders and accumulate a fair amount of stock.

Once these stop orders are clear, then the stock surges back to about the original level. A beautifully executed "head fake."
