My problem with trying to time the market is that it seems like every time some event occurs that I should be taking advantage of, I'm off on a business trip somewhere and don't find out about it until its too late. Maybe if I posted my travel schedule here on the thread it would help the rest of you with your timing efforts ;-)

I am in total agreement. One must always access the portfolio's total performance at the end of each year.

We must never fool ourselves! I have an easy time evaluating my performance over the years, as I have never added funds since starting 10 years ago.

Agreed.
It's easy to get into the "mine is bigger mode"; I suspect most of us could participate. Unless directly relevant to supporting a position on trading strategies or such, this would seem to clutter an otherwise important and growing thread.
