Gosh- not a personal insult to be found. Boy I guess some folks have pretty thin skins if they take something like THAT personally. (or alternatively- they have no sense of personal boundaries and they "are" their ideas, as opposed to merely having ideas- I find that kind of egocentrism fascinating)

You're right. I cannot appreciate why someone who wasn't RR himself would take offense here. E stayed within the compartment - she restricted her uncomplimentary characterization to RR - and even more specifically his statements and actions! (She left it to the reader to connect the dots and come to an assessment of character.) (OK, she zorched Clinton too, but the lack of complaint on that score is revealing.) I believe that taking offense on someone else's behalf, while it is part of the human condition, is a Bad Thing. Something that the best of us have unlearned. Jmo obviously.

This may be a nuance - but I find there are worlds of difference between saying "<person> acted like a real asshole" and "<person> is a real asshole". Curiously this is a Biblical principle - "judge not the person, judge the act". And imo the Reagan supporters are the ones who violated that principle in the last 500 posts here. Imagine that. <ducking>

Gosh- Neo- I don't see that this can be compared in any way to the offensive personal insults Zoltan repeatedly posted to E. I didn't read every post (boy, did I not) but I saw enough of Z's to see that he was totally out of line and making a complete jerk of himself.

THere was no personal attack on anyone in E's posts- unless a person has overidentified with the people he admires. One might find E. stubborn (although I personally think she's wonderful) but she NEVER loses her ability to differentiate between an argument and a person.

Not one single word in that post was a direct insult to anyone but Reagan. And no mature person would react emotionally to it. I have a temper, as you know, but all I did when I read it was laugh and shake my head in admiration at E's gift for words.

Sorry, Neocon, having reread the posting several times, I don't find anything insulting personally in it. I do not necessarily agree with the strength of E's characterization of Ronald Reagan; I think that there was more to him than she does and less than you do. However forcefully she expressed herself, I do not find her expression offensive and don't think anyone else should.
