<I'm simply amazed by all the negativity on this board over the AOL/ATHM deal>

You are very pro a deal. From the immediate gratification camp, this looks great. From a logical analysis of the real issues and realities- not emotional based 'hype' and not cheerleading- to 'make haste slowly' for the many reasons posted is what I have read in the many posts in your direction. I am sure all of wish to make money here, but each see a different 'best path' to get there. In a nut shell:

Camp one- Manifest destiny for ATHM. They are in an excellent position, at the right place and at the right time. In time- and they are working on the details as we post- their story will be known by millions and millions and millions...and millions. (And their story is already hinting at being legion in scope.) If 'other' deals need to happen, they will, in time.
Credo: 'If you build it they will come.'

Camp two- Merge with the present big name ISP and forget content. Get the splash, get the numbers and move the stock price.
Credo: 'I want my MTV!'

Camp three- What will really happen is a combination of present plan and future vision. It will, eventually include more open access, at least, but any ISP merger will, even as Case points out, have to be advantageous for BB.
Credo: 'Only fools rush in.'

I have read things that stir fire in my belly, only to re-read them later and see it differently.

There is a wealth of information here. FIRENZA shared an amazing analysis last night of behind the obvious knee-jerk thinking. It is worth reading and contains wisdom-
defined here as a balanced, informed and 'relatively' unemotional understanding of many variables.

The best aspect of SI is the level of respect most have for one another...while in the pursuit of sharing information and making a profit.

I wish you well.
