I believe if you set up a page to load automatically for a browser, the next time you open a new browser window, it will automatically start that site again. Annoying if you don't want the same window starting up all the time when you're working with multiple windows (I usually have 10-12).

well, the obvious answer, aside from richard's good example...

is that if it takes the homepage, say, 20 seconds to load and you're not interested in going there, you just wasted those 20 seconds. a blank page gets you to the web, ready to go.
