Trump Forming Exploratory Committee
ABCNEWS.com
WASHINGTON — Flamboyant casino mogul, real estate developer and master of self-promotion Donald Trump is taking his first formal step toward seeking the White House.
The billionaire said today outside his offices in New York that he will form an exploratory committee to begin looking into the possibility of a presidential run, joining Warren Beatty and Cybill Sheppard as celebrities who say they are considering presidential candidacy.

In a TV interview earlier, Trump said his status as “the hottest builder in the hottest city in the world” makes him qualified to lead the nation.

Under the headline, “America Needs a President Like Me,” Trump wrote last week in the Wall Street Journal that he is considering a run because, “I don't hear anyone speaking for the working men and women in the center.”

No Excuses
Trump has been short on specifics regarding his policy positions, but wrote in the op-ed piece, “I would center my presidency around three principles: One term, two-fisted policies and no excuses.”

If he does decide to run, the 53-year-old Trump may be able to count on the support of another flamboyant character: The Reform Party's highest-ranking elected official, Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura. Trump and Ventura are meeting tonight in New York for dinner, the details of which are being closely guarded by both sides.

Ventura this morning told ABCNEWS' Good Morning America that Trump is a better fit for the party than Pat Buchanan, who has hinted that he may leave the GOP to mount a bid for the Reform Party presidential nomination. “I think he's more centrist,” Ventura said of Trump. “I think he's more socially liberal, fiscally conservative, which is what I believe the Reform Party is.”

Trump today called Buchanan “a disgrace.” He has said that he will make a final decision on whether or not to run early next year.
