That BJP has managed to bring all these disparate elements into its fold better than congress, is hope enough for the future. The big question mark is whether the liberals in the BJP will be able to free the party from the shackles of the right-wing religious fruitcakes of the RSS, VHP et. al. As long as that doesn't happen, the hope of bringing disparate elements together for a common cause will remain a pipedream. In that sense, the rather poor showing of the Congress(I) could come as a blessing in disguise for the moderates in the BJP, and as a curse to the extreme saffron and khakhi elements.
