Mainly for the same reason you like RR...Direct connection with no shared pipeline with your neighbors.

If it's 3:30 PM, and the kids are coming back from school, forget about cable...it will be like dial-up. DSL is cheaper to set up (at least it is here), and the speeds don't fluctuate like cable speeds do.

Besides, the cable guys around here cheezed me by promising their service every month, but pushing it back whenever you called to bug them...month, after month, after month...for almost 1 1/2 years. Frustrating to say the least.

In Canada, Rogers cable modems have a maximium portal of 4 per channel. I've found that it's the T1 in this world which are cap'd, Between freinds I can recieve up to 3.4Mbps, with an average of 2.8Mbps. But to interface with netscape or microsoft I'm limited to 400Kbps. But of course my upload speed is capped to 50K/s. {but hey, I'm a leecher} Soon, thanks to the CRTC and deregulation. We can expect better service IF they expect to keep their service. Other companies like SHAW offer faster @home service, which is now symmetrical. So I think for $32CAD/mnth {$38 cause I have 2 IP's} I have a great service.

Hutch
PS: After Deinstallation of the @home software, I noticed a 250% increase in speed. My guess is they place a cap within their software.

ADSL: Most areas that offer DSL, won't work. Reason: Bridge Taps. These are line multiplexors and will cause bandwidth over flow. So the sugnals {which are high frequecy} will degrade, and as such get lost. Unless you live VERY close to a switching station, you won't get ADSL to reach the min specs. BUT few who have ADSL even know how to test it. ADSL would've cost me $64, but the second IP wouldn't be needed.

PPS: Sorry about the spelling...
