Edwarda - most of my friends are probably snobs of one stripe or another. And, of course, that raises the possibility that I too..... Although "these people" (Ticky and Tacky Box) MAY be limited in vision and seek to scale other heights of "success," I do not see them as a problem. I will admit they bore me to tears but that says as much about me as about them. That so many are relatively content with the choir vs. the cabaret may even be a bit maddening but I believe we'd be in a hell of a fix without these unimaginative souls. I think we're getting there. There is a good case to be made for civilizations, empires and countries rotting from the top. Makes no difference if they are monarchies, democracies or whatever else you can dream up. There is always a class with the power or lack of discipline that says, I'm above these rules (standards) - I'm going to have it MY way. This not too big a problem until that class grows too large. IMO, with the help of Hollywood and Geraldo (the list is quite long), the "I-can-do-it-too class" has grown too large. We can also point to news media that deny us any hero save whoever's on the cover of People this week or the unwed teenage mom with four kids who has been off crack for a whole month and is now enjoying her class in how to use a scanner at the local community college. There are hundreds of arguments that might spring from this (some of which, hopefully, don't involve The Gipper). Mike
