Joan, This is pretty black and white stuff but media hype makes this more like mud. August numbers (for the first time in a long time) surprised the street and were weak. For September they were looking for +200,000 and got - 8,000. Floyd was not that big of a hit so for two months in a row the numbers are weak. Greenspan's hands are tied for November as he has two weak months to set off October's numbers even IF they are strong (and I wouldn't bet on that). Housing, unemployment, etc. all look as if the economy is starting to slow down.
Also did you notice the timing of a certain big boy downgrading financial stocks? This caused part of the sell off this morning. I'm wondering if that same big boy sold in the past few days thinking the numbers would be strong?
