MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct 8, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- HearMe (NASDAQ: HEAR), a leading provider of technology and services for real-time communication, collaboration and community experiences on the Internet, announced today that it has filed an action for patent infringement against Lipstream Networks, Inc.

On October 13, 1998, HearMe was issued United States Patent No. 5,822, 523, entitled "Server-Group Messaging System for Interactive Applications." The action alleges that Lipstream infringes this patent through the sale and licensing of its products. HearMe is seeking a court order to enjoin Lipstream from further sale or licensing of infringing products and is also seeking to recover damages, attorneys fees and costs.

Since its founding in 1995, HearMe has made significant investments in technology and has worked to aggressively protect this investment through its patent filing activities. HearMe and its subsidiaries have been granted eight patents with more pending.
