Here is some news -----> Compaq, Proxim join to offer wireless networking NEW YORK, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp. <CPQ.N> and networking products maker Proxim Inc. <PROX.O> on Monday said they have joined to deliver cordless home-and-small business networking products to consumers early next year. Houston-based Compaq, the worlds' No. 1 personal computer maker, will add HomeRF-based products technology licensed from Long Beach, Calif.-based Proxim to its Presario Internet PC product line. "In today's corporate office, people tend to work at their desks," Michael Wolf, Cahners In-Stat senior analyst, home networking, said in a statement. "But in the home, mobile devices such as the cordless phone have created a demand for convenient, untethered connections that afford a higher degree of comfort and freedom. We see wireless home networking as the solution providing that lifestyle." Compaq will offer the cordless universal serial bus adapter for Presario desktops and the cordless PC card enabling Presario notebook users to create a cordless home network, which allows computers to share Internet connections (including broadband), printers and files. Starting in the second half of 2000, the joint agreement will provide the technology to support more advanced communications, such as high-quality voice and audio communications, faster data rates and wireless Internet access outside the home.
